Educator
Bookworm Writer "As a student, I have always felt Ms. Waite truly represented how a teacher is to be with their students, what a phenomenal teacher looks like, and in general, an exemplary teacher!" - Hafizur a former student |
I have 8+ years of teaching experience, and 5+ years of teacher training experience. I love working with both kids (tenth graders are my favorite though) and adults to help make connections and offer insight into new subjects for them. I incorporate backward design, project-based learning, scaffolding, and differentiation into my curriculum. I have led curriculum trainings at district, state, and national conferences. I take into consideration the whole child which is why relationship building is important to me and I've been trained in crisis intervention (I used to volunteer for a crisis line). I've written district curriculum and helped edit an article published by Mathematica, an American research organization and consulting company. I've discussed my curriculum on multiple news and radio episodes and have been featured in numerous articles. Mostly importantly, I teach students to trust their voice and think critically about the world around them. I incorporate creativity in my lessons.
I love reading and writing. I'm a published writer, multi-contest winner, and have edited student anthologies sold in Pages Bookshop. My third degree is in Creative Writing. I especially love reading transgressive fiction, but I'm happy with most things contemporary. I read on the treadmill at the gym. I draw, paint, and take photos sometimes, but less than I do the other creative things I love. I have a husband (Zak), a hamster (Sera), and a cat (Lennon). In my free time, I go on long walks, drink banana milkshakes (I'm obsessed with anything banana flavored), and study jujutsu. I use the Oxford comma and just recently stopped using two spaces after a period. Credentials
Albeit years ago now for some of these, some additional, relevant experience I have includes:
Further reflections and work I have done can be viewed on my portfolio I organized for my Master's in Curriculum program at MSU. Clicking on my resume below will open the document. Professional developments and conferences I've led training sessions at are also available, as well as my AP language certification.
Praise
I think praise from others offers insight into the type of educator I am. I include some praise from former students, coworkers, and one of my pre-student teachers below.
